About Us
Westwood Community Child Care Inc. (WCCC) is a non-profit child care centre licensed through Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care. WCCC is licensed for 70 children (60 School Age, Grades 1-5 and 10 Kindergarten). We service the families that attend Sansome School. Our license is renewed annually with the Government of Manitoba.
The centre was founded in September of 1982 and is governed by a Board of Directors. Each year, an Annual General Meeting is held to elect a Board of Directors from the membership. Each parent with a child attending is considered a member. All parents are encouraged to attend this Annual General Meeting and volunteer as a Board Member. All policies followed by WCCC are approved by the Board of Directors.
We are members of the Manitoba Child Care Association, as well as an affiliate member of the Canadian Chid Care Federation.
Westwood Community Child Care Inc. is a registered charity (105656870RR0001).
WCCC was originally located inside Westwood Collegiate at 360 Rouge Road. We occupied 2 classrooms on the second floor which had a main room, office and kitchen. The children also had access to the school gym and field for extra curricular activities. The children were walked to and from both schools in the morning, at lunch, and after school.
In 2005, the opportunity was presented to move within Sansome School. Many challenges came with this move, but over the course of the summer and with few interruptions to our program, we became settled in for the 2005-06 school year. As time passed, carpet and flooring were replaced; new storage units were purchased as well as larger furniture like couches, office furniture and kitchen tables and chairs. We have recently just renovated the kitchen in the centre.
At WCCC, we enjoy a positive relationship with Sansome School. Being onsite with school staff, we have developed great communication on the needs of individual children and appreciate sharing in special events.
